Hook n Shoot TITLES ON THE LINE: PLUS THE RETURN OF AARON RILEY!!!
On Saturday July 14th, The Evansville Memorial Coliseum will once again play host Evansville's own HOOKnSHOOT. ""EEEEEEEYYYYYYAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!" HnS promoter Jeff Osborne is screaming again! "We've had over 30 shows now and it amazes me how we can just keep getting better. Really it is all due to the fighters and we have some great guys fighting on this card." continues Osborne.

Headlining the event are a pair of HOOKnSHOOT Championship bouts that promise to be spectacular. On track for the Light Heavyweight title is up and coming Curtis Stout, who is coming off of a brutal KO victory in his last HOOKnSHOOT performance. He is contesting for the belt against champion John "The Saint' Renken. Renken is a mainstay in the Midwest scene and is one of the most experienced fighters in the game. This
will be a match of striking prowess and athleticism vs. ring savvy and submission faculty.

If that wasn't enough, young guns Yves Edwards and Aaron Riley are scheduled to square off in the Main Event for the HOOKnSHOOT Middleweight title. This is a highly anticipated match, because the champion Riley is returning to HOOKnSHOOT to defend his title for the first time in nearly one year. One of HnS brightest stars, Riley has been training at
AMC Pankration ever since, and should come back with more polished skills. There is also the history between these two men. Yves Edwards needs no introduction to the Evansville crowd, as he has eanred numerous victories in impressive style in Evansville. Yves also defeated Aaron at HOOKnSHOOT "Texas Heat" for the Submission-Fighting title that Aaron held at the time (October 1999). Looking for smoking guns as both of
these men like to bang with both barrels, Riley looking for a little revenge, and Edwards looking to add another belt to his collection.

The event will showcase 8 other exciting bouts leading up to these feature matches. Included in this the "Battle of Spaniards", which is expected to be one of the most highly skilled matches in HnS history, AMC Pankration student and native of Chile, Ivan Salaverri, will face-off against Manuel Garcia from Austrias, Spain. Garcia is an Abu
Dhabi 2000 veteran, and has extensive Vale Tudo training with the Ruas Vale Tudo Team. He hold Vale Tudo titles in every weight class in Spain and is looking to test himself internationally - and HOOKnSHOOT is the place!

"We will be back on September 29th as well" concludes Osborne, "but we are eagerly anticipating SHOWDOWN first".

INTERVIEW: CHATT LAVENDER
ADCC News got the opportunity to speak with ANOTHER of the Midwest's rising young fighters. The soft spoken Chatt Lavender isn't making alot of noise or using hype to attract attention, he is making a name for himself the old fashion way... he is earning it. With decisive submission victories over the likes of LaVerne Clark and Karl Schmidt, Chatt has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with.

Very humble and modest, he epitomizes the old adage of walk softly and carry a big stick. He will will be walking that big stick into the ring on July 13th against one of Mixed Martial Arts top fighters, Matt Hughes. He spoke with us about his tempered view of fighting and his career. He is very excited about where he is headed but is not letting it take from his
focus.

MW: Hello Chatt and thanks for taking the time to talk with us.
CL: No, thank you.

MW: Currently, you're one of the hot new names coming up in the Midwest. This is argueably one of the most talent-packed areas in the world. Give us your thoughts on these developments:

CL: I am excited, I enjoy competing and hope to keep doing well.

MW: Most recently you defeated LaVerne Clark by armbar and Karl Schmidt by choke. These are some impressive accomplishments. Going in you were considered the underdog for these bouts. Now how do you feel that you stack up to others in your weight class?

CL: I kind of like being the underdog. I like to surprise people. As far as comparing myself to other fighters in my weight class, it is hard to say. With so many good fighters out there, any of the top 15 guys could win on any given day.

MW: Next up is a bout on July 13th against Matt Hughes. He is considered by most to be a top ten ranker, probably top five, in the 170 lbs weight division. How do you feel about this match?

CL: I respect Matt and he is definitely a top 5 fighter. I am excited about the opportunity to get in the ring with him. How will the fight go? No one really knows, that is the great thing about MMA, somany things can happen.

MW: What got you started in Mixed Martial Arts?

CL: I became interested in MMA the first time I saw the UFC. It was the first one where Royce was armbarring everyone. I saw that and said "that is for me".

MW: I've said this before, the UFC and its pioneers have really set the stage for a ot of the young guys like yourself that we see competing today. Tell us, what is your martial arts background and what skills do you prefer to use in the ring?

CL: I train at The Bulls Ring in Spring City, Tennesse. Mark "Bull" Eldridge is my trainer. We do just about everything - Karate, Muay Thai, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, boxing. When I get in the ring I try to use a little something from all of them.

MW: What were you doing before Shoot-Fighting/Vale Tudo came to the U.S., you know before anyone ever heard of the UFC?

CL: Well, I wrestled in high school, then I graduated in '94. I really missed the 1 on 1 competition. So in '96 I started taking karate and Jiu-jitsu.

MW: Did you ever envision that you'd be competing in this type of competition and doing so well?

CL: After my first MMA fight I knew I had found my calling. Up till then I had done ok in kickboxing, judo, and Jiu-jitsu tournaments, but when I could put it all together in one bout it seemed to work better.

MW: I'd say so. At this point you are around 8-0. Tell us a little about some of your other matches and the opponents you've faced?

CL: I have fought some tough guys, I really don't even remember some of their names, but I learned a lot from every one of them.

MW: Who are some fighters out there that you'd like to face either because you think you match up well or it will help your career along?

CL: I just want to keep fighting the best out there. A fighter never knows if he is really good unless he goes up against the top guys.

MW: You have fought under Rings rules, how did you like it? Which rules format do you think is best?

CL: I liked the Rings rules. The fights stay active and exciting. A submission guy can work better, if he can get the takedown. But on the other hand a good stand-up fighter only has to hang on for 30 seconds and he gets another chance. I also like the rules
that UFC is using right now, I just wish everyone could agree on 1 set.

MW: That is an issue with our sport currently. Recently you were scheduled for a match in HOOKnSHOOT. That bout didn't happen. Can you tell us what happened there?

CL: My trainers son was killed in a car crash. He was only 16. Jeremy was great kid that had a lot of potential as a fighter. He had already obtained a 2-1 record in MMA. I am really close to my trainer and his whole family so needless to say I was not emotionally able to compete.

MW: I am sorry to hear that, my thoughts go out to his family. Now, you are young and talented and coming in on what some people call the third generation of Mixed
Martial Arts. Guys in you genre are more the cross-trainers and well rounded, while the first wave of competitors were more specialized. It is obvious that well-roundedness is necessary, but most of the tops guys today still have a specialization. What do you think is the best formula for a fighter today?

CL: The best combination is to be smart and be in shape. If you don't panic and you have good endurance, then you can use what skills you know.

MW: Good point. A lot of fighters out there have lost matches simply because they couldn't keep up the pace. Let's close with this... Are there any fighters that you model yourself after or you think you are most like?

CL: I don't really think so, I take a little from just about everyone that I watch fight. I am
constantly learning and trying knew things.

MW: Sounds good Chatt. Again we appreciate you taking the time and good luck on the 13th and with everything.

CL: Thank you, I appreciate the opportunity.

"DRACULINO" TALKS ABOUT HIS INJURY

The 29 year old BJJ black belt, Vinicius "Draculino" Magalhães was set to make his NHB debut at the SUPERBRAWL 5th ANNIVERSARY, fighting the ADCC 2001 runner up Baret Yoshida. But while training Muay Thai with his student Velloso, Draculino injured his right knee.
"After a clinch, I threw a leg kick but he defended with his shin. The problem was that it hit right in the side of my knee, that I had surgery in last year" he explained. He thought it was not that serious and kept training, making the injury get even worse. "I felt a lot of pain, but since my body was warmed up I kept training for more 3 rounds. That was when it got complicated because my knee swelled a lot".
Now he will have to stay a long time away from training, but he doesn't know how long. "It's still early to say when I'll be back. The doctor said in 90 days, but I intend to get back earlier, if everything works out well". When asked about what he's going to do next, Draculino said: "Now I'm focusing on my recuperation. Yesterday the doctor checked my knee and left me sad because apparently I do not have a fracture, but he told me that the symptoms were typical of a meniscus rupture with ligament trauma."
Today however, after applying ice and strong anti-inflammatories I'm not feeling much pain and the swelling reduced, but I still can't bend my leg normally. At least I'm already walking. Hopefully, I won't need to have another surgery", said the black belt from Gracie Barra. But, does he still want to fight Yoshida? "Sure! I think Baret is one of the best fighters in this weight class, and it would be great to fight him", said Draculino, adding that there is no bad blood at all between them. "Some people asked if I don't like him, but I don't know why. He seems to be a very nice guy, and I had never said anything bad about him".
In spite of being disappointed, Draculino is still positive about a great fight between them happening in the future. "I'm sure our fight will be very good to watch because of our style and technical level. I hope one day we give a great showing to the fans", he said. "I'd also like to thank you for the opportunity and send a big hug to all the readers and the staff of the ADCC News". FIGHTWORLD.com Brazil wishes good luck and a speedy recovery to this great fighter, and a class act, Vinicius "Draculino" Magalhães.

Ian The Machine Freemans autobiography, June 14th, Sunderland
Who knows what the police throughout the Northeast were thinking at around 7pm on Thursday night. Hundreds of the biggest doormen in the region were amongst press and VIP guests for the launch party of Ians autobiography. Also in attendance was Ians friend Dave Courtney, invited up for an event after the party.
There was no need for concern the event was a huge success for writers Ian and Stuart Wheatman as they both did a speech before signing books. Ian took to the stage first, in what can only be described as stand-up comedy. He really took the stage by storm, no stranger to an audience and a true entertainer. He had the crowd in stitches (nothing unusual there) with a bombardment of one liners and stories from his book.

Stuart had a hard act to follow. Both made a point of thanking their families publicly for the support they had received, making the occasion that bit more special to those close to them.
It was a capacity crowd with only standing room left. Hundreds of people turned up to congratulate Ian on his accomplishments and listen to him speak. The Dave Courtney event which was to take place after the launch party even had to be delayed by nearly two hours as Ian and Stuart signed copies of the book for fans and well wishers.
Quote from Ian:
"Wow! I couldn't have asked for a better evening. Over 350 people turned out for the book launch. Everyone of high importance.
The highlight for me was entertaining the crowd with my stories and watching them all laugh at the funny endings. The crowd could see that my new lead role in the film 'Viv' was no fluke. They could see I could perform and act in front of an audience.
Thank you to everyone that attended and I hope you all enjoy my book."
The book is available on amazon books on the Internet and also at www.bronsonmania.com
Available in all good bookshops: ISBN: 1 902578 18 X RRP £14.99
