KNEEBAR ATTACK!!!

When working from the bottom postion, The Guard, you must not stay to laxed. By this I am speaking of staying in one place. In the past many fighters would simply lay in the guard and wait for the fighter to make a mistake. However today's fighters are very skilled in passing the guard and working from inside of it as well. While it is very dangerous for the top man to remain inside of a skilled fighters guard, it is however possible to beat the common guard. So with this said, Keep a Active guard. Make the top man make a mistake, and don't give him time to pass the guard with ease. Work a combo of submissions and sweeps until you catch him with something you can finish him with. In this sequence, Cappi is working the guard postion, Eric is in the top postion. Eric is a very strong and skilled fighter that hits very hard and has excellent submission defences. So it is best for Cappi to work the guard actively and continue to put pressure on Eric to stop his array of strikes and the chance he could pass the guard and get the dominate postion.

Submission Combos from the Guard

1. Cappi sets up a belt sweep by moving his hips to the side. Also useing strikes to help with the set up.
2. His opponent sees this coming, and tries to defend, so Cappi works a kimora.
3. When the opponent straightens the arm to defend, Cappi shifts his hips to get an Atola lock.
4. But again, the experienced fighter defends, and Cappi works for a Kata Gatame Choke by wrapping the arm around his head on the opposite side.
5. But still the fighter defends, so Cappi moves for a Guillotine choke, by wrapping his opponents head with his right arm and pulling as his pushes with his feet.
6. Again, the fighter defends. And Cappi works an inverted Arm bar to finish on the other side, by shifting his hips and rolling to his stomach.
7. You can also, switch to a butterfly guard here and catch the knee bar if you wish.

With this combo, you can continue to work the submissions, You may also want to use the Jiju Gatame(ARMBAR) and Ashi Katagatame (TRIANGLE CHOKE)that we all know and love, I just choose to use a different angle for this combo set. Remember always be pro active, never give your opponent a chance to escape, if one thing doesn't work move to the next, it needs to be a good flow of movement. The above set works together, but you can mix it up to stay ahead of the game.
